Tea 4 Two Tea dances
Let's have some fun!
Tea 4 Two tea dances have been held in Geelong, Colac, Lorne, Warrnambool and Camperdown as an Australian Government Initiative.
The tea dances are a chance for people to get out, have some fun and enjoy the popular songs from the post war and 1950's era.
People love getting up to dance and re-live some of the music from their youth, listening to favourites like Ron Sudden or the Frankie Lawrence Band.
One participant told our staff that it was the first time her and her husband had danced together for twenty years.
The aim of the Tea 4 Two dances is to provide a chance for carers of people with memory loss to come together with their loved ones, to find out more about Dementia preventative measures and support systems available locally, to meet some of the service providers from around the area, and to have a bit of fun listening and tapping their toes to their old favourite tunes. "It' was great to see everybody have such a good time!" said one of the carers who came along.
The programme also helps increase people's awareness of local support services for Dementia and memory loss and support to the the community, as many of the local Dementia, aged care and community services are involved and represented at the tea dances to chat and to answer all queries. St Laurence Family and Community Services and Alzheimer's Association of Victoria (Geelong and Warrnambool branches) were partners in bringing the tea dances to each area of the Barwon South Western Region of Victoria.
