What does Best of Care do exactly?
Carer support
Best of Care has provided carer support to help thse who are aged to remain at home for the past ten years. They do this with an amazing care team of over 200 staff who are prepared to adapt to the lifestyle the person they support desires. Best of Care provides specially individualised services for young active people, with disabilities as well as the frail, aged and those with Dementia.
The care team are dedicated to support those incredible families who devote their life so that their loved one has the best opportunity for a fulfilling life. The person and the family have the control and the say of when, what, and how, services are delivered.
The Best of Care care services range from in-home respite, overnight care and personal care, to escorting to appointments, shopping, meals, and community activities.
Duties performed by our Personal Carers may include showering, getting a person organised for the day, shopping, assistance to get out and about, housework, companionship, even lighting a wood stove, through to nursing procedures. Best of Care's care team love having fun and laugh a lot. They are eager to do activities such as accompanying a person who has a disability to the footy, ten pin bowling, swimming, to the pictures, or to fly a kite.
Understanding your needs
Best of Care understand that it is often impossible to predict your needs from week to week, any more than it to predict the weather. That is why there is no fee charged when cancellations occur. Ann Cotterell, Managing Director of Best of Care said, "We recognise that the thought of a stranger coming into the house can cause resistance to having support. Therefore, we ensure that the skills and personality of our staff are matched with our clients and their individual needs." All staff at Best of Care are thoroughly screened; and are also required to have police checks.
Best of Care provide private services, as well as services funded by various government programmes. "Take a Break" and "Career Angels", both Best of Care sponsored programmes, are an initiative of the Australian Government. These funded programmes provide support on a regular basis for people who are caring for loved ones who are frail aged and those with memory loss and confusion with various needs.
Staying
in your home
Best of Care work in conjunction with palliative care nurses to provide 24-hour palliative care for those people who choose to stay at home in their last days.
"We give people a choice. They don't necessarily have to go into an aged care facility," said Ann, "Bringing services into a person's own home can make elderly or disabled people more independent and comfortable."
Best of Care provide services on request to clients of Barwon South Western Carer Respite Service, Barwon Health, St Laurence Community Options, Barwon Region Aged Care Assessment Services, Transport Accident Commission, many aged care facilities, as well as numerous other organisations throughout Victoria.
