The administration office of Best of Care is located at 9 Fairlie Street, Hamlyn Heights (Geelong), Victoria.
We have a 130 strong team of care professionals - experienced Personal Carers, Nurses, Care Co-ordinators, and other health care experts - who cover the Geelong, Bellarine Pennisula, Surf Coast, Lara, Winchelsea and Colac areas.
There is always someone close by to attend at short notice.
When can care commence?
Best of Care can provide a carer, in most cases, within one hour of your call. For on-going care, our Care Co-ordinator can visit you at your convenience to discuss your needs and to organise your care plan.
Best of Care match up the care team member best suited to your personal and physical requirements. A care plan can be put in place as soon as the next day if that is what you require.
What does the Care Co-ordinator do?
She is the first point of contact for you and your family. All your needs can be discussed, and you will find that a trust and understanding will be established. Your Care Co-ordinator can give you advice on the most appropriate community health care programmes and funding and in many cases can set processes in motion. She can assist you to access the best options through Best of Care, and can also assist with effective liaison with other service providers.
How much does the Co-ordinator visit cost?
There is absolutely no charge for this visit by our Care Co-ordinator. You can find out all the financial options and Government funding available for your care requirements with no obligation.
How carefully do you choose your personal carers?
All of our staff are thoroughally screened and checked, police checks inclusive, in an intensive interview process. Suitability and skill levels are analysed; including psychological testing and personality assessment, before a prospective employee can start to meet the Best of Care standard.
We take great pride of our team here at Best of Care and we feel that the quality is due, in part, to the thoroughness of these procedures. If a good team is in the sum of its parts - the parts here are working very well! We see ourselves as honest and skilled and caring, and we come to work each day wanting to make a difference to someone's life.
The process of choosing a Personal Carer for a client involves consideration of such issues as gender, age, and cultural requirements. Great care is taken to ensure it's a perfect match. Your Best of Care Co-ordinator will listen to all your concerns and find someone just right for your personal, physical and mental needs.
What is respite?
Respite is a service that enables the primary carer to Take a Break and re-charge their energy levels. Best of Care respite carers are multi-skilled and adapt to the needs of the person, allowing the primary carer to rest assured. Respite carers can provide companionship, personal care services, overnight care, meal preparation and assistance, as well as nursing duties. Respite can be provided on an emergency or on-going basis.
When can I have a personal carer attend, and what if I need to cancel a service?
Our service is flexible, with Personal Carers available on an hourly, daily, overnight, all day, or combination basis. Best of Care do not charge a set-up or cancellation fee and don't make you sign any contracts. The level of care you need is totally up to you. You won't be penalised for non-attendance.
Can personal carers administer my medication?
Under the Drugs and Poisons Act, the only person able to administer medication is a Doctor, Chemist or DivIisional 1 Nurse. If the medication is in a Dosette, Webster or Blister pack that has been set up by a pharmacist, our Personal Carers can assist you. Should you require more intensive medication or assistance with wound dressing etc, we have Divisional 1 Nurses available to assist you.
Are you involved with palliative care?
Best of Care has fully trained palliative care staff who work together with Barwon Health Palliative Care Nurses to provide 24 hour palliative care.
